What is Vinyl Wrap?
Some of you may be wondering what vinyl wrap is. Well vinyl wrap is, in easy terms, like a big sticker. This material is applied to the vehicle panels creating a smooth quality color that can withstand being outdoors. There are many different types of vinyl wrap out there depending on where you are located. The vinyl or wrap can last between 6 months- 8+ years depending on the color chosen and the brand chosen. Vinyl wrap will also help protect your investment! Once applied the wrap will prevent sun damage and fading to happen to your vehicle’s original paint. It also holds up to small rock chips and debris that hit it. It basically “freezes” time on your paint! One of the best parts of vinyl wrap is that is 100% removable to go back to your original paint color. You can change your look of your car as much as you want!
What type of colors are there?
There are so many colors available. The film finish types they have is Gloss, Matte, Satin, Brushed, Metallic, Carbon Fiber, Color Flip, and Chrome. There is even different films like a Rugged look (truck bed liner). If you really want to feel fancy you can get a custom printed design. Make it one of a kind!
I got my car wrapped. Now what?
Take care of it. You will have to maintain your vehicles wrap by washing it routinely. Once a week should be fine for a maintenance wash. This will help will ensuring the wrap lasts as long as the wrap manufacturer intended. Hand wash is always recommended. You can use car wash soap, a degreaser, any car cleaning products and 70% isopropyl. We do recommend to not pressure wash your wrap, but you can get away with it just do not stand close.
I have a matte or satin finish; How do I protect it from scratching and staining?
Now we recommend this for all wraps, but you can get a ceramic coat to help protect the finish. Certain ceramic companies make their product safe for Vinyl. This will add a layer of protection on top while adding hydrophobic properties, ease of cleaning, does not stay as dirty. This also prevents against that pesky staining from sap or bird droppings.
I got Sap, Bird droppings, and Bugs on my wrap what do I do?
You want to wipe it off as soon as possible when you notice it. A degreaser or 70% isopropyl will clean it super quick. You do not need to stress out about it but just to protect your investment, you must take care of it. Cleaning the wrap will help prevent these things from staining and ruining the paint like finish the wrap has.
Why choose Vinyl over Paint?
For most cases, a vinyl professional will install the film quicker and be less money than it would take to get someone to provide a top-notch paint job. Vinyl is also removable! So, in a few years if you wanted another color you do not have to go through the whole process of painting the vehicle again.
Why does the wrap cost more than my car is worth?
There are no intentions for the wrap to cost more than the car is worth. Vinyl wrap installation is judged off size, complexity, original color, and paint condition. The price shouldn’t be too much different from a 1990’s sedan to a 2020 sedan. Especially since a 1990’s sedan could be way dirtier.
When is it recommended to swap out colors?
If you like a color you have that is great! After a few years (3-4), the wrap will start to become semi-permanent, meaning, once the wrap is removed some adhesive may be left on the surface. This requires more time and more labor for the installer. If you want to save money long term, try to get it swapped out in your films time “window”. You may be asking well what happens to my paint? Nothing. Your paint will be fine! The adhesive is fully removable also.
What else should I consider before getting a wrap?
Original paint condition matters. If your paint were sprayed incorrectly or it did not bond to the surface, the vinyl could pull that section of paint off. Well, how do you know you ask… unfortunately there is no way to know. If you have dents or dings, without surface prep you will be able to see these damages in the wrap. If you have cracked bumpers or fenders, rust, paint oxidation, clear coat peeling wrap will not be able to be applied over it. If you still want a wrap you can get these professionally fixed before getting your vehicle wrapped. Some companies may include in their price surface prep. Does not hurt to ask!
